| 1998-07-30 | Hellcat airborne for Legends |
After reporting problems with the rebuilding of the Hellcat's engine in previous Happenings pages it is a pleasure to be able to report that the aircraft is back in the air again with all the problems and difficulties ironed out. The engine, which was damaged in transit on its return from the USA, has been repaired and sorted out by JRS Engines in the States. After much weilding of spanners in the Hangar, the front end of the aircraft, from engine mounts to propellor, was put back together again, ground tested and flown in time for the Flying Legends Show - no mean feat... While we're talking about engines, the power plant on the Wildcat provided some entertainment recently when a glazed cylinder bore was diagnosed after signs of low compression were detected during engine run. The problem was dealt with fairly quickly, and the machine was airworthy again for Legends. | |
