The Fiat CR.42 Falco has been visited by the TFC engineering staff recently. This is a potted version of what they found in Italy. The tailplanes and fins have been built and are largely complete now. The wing spars are being manufactured at the moment and it would seem that the next six months should actually see the completion of the wings themselves. The oil cooler, oil tank and fuel tank are under manufacture in the UK and it would seem that the RAF Museum have allowed TFC to remove and strip one of the undercarriage legs from their machine at Hendon to allow drawings to be accurately made up. We did replace the removed leg with a dummy so the RAF machine does still stand up, but making the drawings is proving trickier than we had banked on. One of the most obvious parts missing form the jigsaw at the moment is the nose exhaust collector ring, but Italy provided some drawings for exactly that item so it is possible that it can be scratch built in the foreseeable future. The other thing that came back from the visit was a long list of parts still to collect for the machine, but more will be made of that elsewhere on this site, and at another time. | |
