Good news at last from the collection of toolboxes around the Mk IX Spitfire, ML417. The frame 5 firewall has been replaced completely, and the carry-through spar section which provides the anchor points for the wing main spars is also back on the fuselage having been replaced too. The first wing is due back from Norfolk in the near future, having been resparred, and the second won't be much later. Replacing the wings, fuel tanks, engine bearers and the masses of coolant and oil pipework will then be able to begin in earnest, although no dates are being suggested for the completion of the work on the Spit. TFC Spitfires have been much in demand this year already with the baby Spit, EP120, and the MkXIV, MV293, taking part in a number of shows around the country, and shows and film work in Europe. |
