A few quick snaps from Saturday at Legends, if you didn’t make today hope to see you tomorrow, thanks to Rob for the pics.
In a corner of the hangar volunteers have been involved in a special restoration project. It is now 17 years since we lost Colin Dunwell and Chris Gardner in an accident while passengers flying in Confederate Air Force B-26 “Carolyn” in the US on 28th September 1995. Their families donated a bench placed in the shadow of a tree which has been outside Hangar 2 by the crew room as a memorial…. and a much valued seat for members of the TFC team to sit and ponder and remember. Colin and Chris were both key members of the volunteer team at TFC and when you next visit Duxford you may care to spend a moment sitting on “Their Bench” outside the crew room to remember two great guys we lost too early. Not forgotten.”
The Hawker Sea Fury T.20 is due to have a second flight of the day any time now, look out over South Cambridgeshire. Photos will hopefully follow later today.
We are back after a break after Flying Legends. Work continues in the hangar with the Hellcat being moved into the service area along with the Wildcat.
TFC volunteers were busy today cleaning the aircraft and engineering checks were being carried out on the Spitfire Mk XIV. Thanks to Fred for allowing us to catch this on video:
A quick note for those who joined as online members recently (including at Flying Legends). We have processed your details but we are upgrading the members area software this week end so we haven’t been able to add everyone on to the online system yet. This should be cleared within the next few days and we thank you for your patience.
On the subject of online membership we are in the process of updating the Members pages with more background information on the aircraft of TFC (old and new), archive photos and video. This update will happen in stages and we will let you know though the diary as and when.
Something to put in your diary:
Flying Legends 2013 – 13th and 14 July
Thanks to every one who came along to Duxford this week end. It was great to see so many old and new faces. It has been a great end to an extremely busy week for everyone who helps make Flying Legends work. We will find a few different pictures to post over the next few days but now is the opportunity for an early night.
We will leave you with just the one picture for now from the start of the Saturday show:
The Friends of TFC tent was as ever busy with new memberships and renewals, please allow a while for the admin team to catch up with the paperwork.
